Custom Relational Database

I, along with seven other students worked with a local yoga studio to build them a custom functional database prototype. After determining what information and business needs the client had, we designed the database schema, built entity-relationship diagrams in Microsoft Visio, populated tables in Microsoft Access, and wrote the relevant SQL queries.

I primarily worked on the Visio diagrams, formatting database inputs and outputs to and from Excel, R, VBA, etc. with Python scripts, and generating a Google Maps heatmap to plot the studio's customer distribution.

Raytracer

I wrote a raytracer from scratch in C++ with the assistance of my partner Kevin Hui. The program processes formatted text files or object files to render high-quality images complete with Phong shading, shadows, reflections, and transformations. See generated examples below.

Presidential Election Trends

Aggregated presidential election results by county from 2004 and 2012 along with 2010 census data to predict which demographic attributes strongly affected voting trends. We tested predictor variables trained on 2004 and tested on 2012 data using recursive partitioning and K-nearest neighbors against actual results, and plotted counties that changed parties using GML (geographic markup language) information.

Mounza UI Redesign

Mounza is a career networking platform that connects students to hiring companies and on-campus career events. I, along with two others, worked directly with the two co-founders of the company to overhaul the site's user interface from the recruiter's perspective.

Wordtastic

I, along with three other students, were prompted to create an Android application utilizing sound or voice-input as a primary feature. We decided to develop an app that that allowed users to create custom flashcard decks with images from the phone gallery and camera, with the goal of developing early vocabulary and image recognition in younger children. The whole project development cycle can be seen here, and includes brainstorming, user studies, prototypes, and product demonstrations.
